Costa Rica Partnership

Costa Rica Partnership

At Post, we’re always seeking partnerships that prove mutually beneficial, to work with amazing people and their amazing products, and being able to serve that to our customers. It’s trade, but when you peel back the layer of “this for that,” you see and work with real human beings.

We’ve bought from the Farmer’s Project in Costa Rica for many years. We have time and time again bought from Katia Zamora’s Cloza Farm, specifically her peaberry varietal. This year, we have been fortunate to work with Ceci Genis, her mother Marigold Murray, and their Zalmari Estate, founded in the 1920’s. Ceci is a fourth-generation producer.

I (Levi) grew up on a farm in Iowa, and have seen firsthand what generational farming looks like. My father is a 5th generation farmer of the Holland Family Farm. Those are special, deeply bonded relationships to family and land, and we can work with farmers doing the same thing with a different product from a different part of the world. That, in itself, makes this job so satisfying, because behind the pleasure and privilege of enjoying excellent coffee in our coffee shops, is an innate humanness, which is the definition of connection.

Ceci and her mother are longtime members of the International Women’s Coffee Alliance, and their farm was the first to earn a Women Care Certification in Costa Rica. That means they are creating and improving sustainable lifestyles for women involved in cultivating, processing, trading, and exporting coffee. That’s incredibly empowering in a historically male-dominated space, and we’re proud to support them.

We hope to visit Zalmari Estate and the Farmer’s Project producers next year, but until then, we’ll be sharing some of their offerings with you!
