Happy Anniversary, Post Coffee Company!
The doors of our first cafe and roasting space opened 10 years ago today, 1/1/15. It was a dream, a collaboration of two families (Tanner and Liz Stevens, Katie and Levi Holland) that had a vision for what a local business could offer a neighborhood.
Lee's Summit, Missouri. A broken down strip mall. Two young families with young kids under the age of three. Chasing purpose, finding meaning and belonging with the medium of a global and local commodity of coffee and bright, open spaces.
10 years later, we have four cafes; Chipman (the original), Goat Hill (opened in 2016), Colbern (opened in 2021), and Broadway (opened in 2022). Tanner and Liz made a big move away from the company in 2022, and Katie and Levi resumed operations in July of 2022. Fundamentally, this was a seismic shift.
We had to turn our passion project into a viable company. The business survived the pandemic, our founding partners were gone, and then the economy fell apart. We decided to dig deep into why we were continuing to work in the specialty coffee industry. Simply, we love it, and here's why:
- We love sourcing incredible coffees from incredible people, and our goal is to share those stories better, here.
- We love the people we've had the privilege to serve with and who we continue to serve with. We love having a staff of creative industry professionals.
- We love existing within the larger network of community, from which "Post" derives its name (existing as a stable space within a larger framework, i.e. post + fence).
As we head into 2025, we have many exciting projects we're working on to share with you. We are grateful and thankful for your support over the past 10 years, and we couldn't be more excited for the future. Cheers!
